2017_Sept25
After dropping little dude at school we had to go grocery shopping.
After a bit of a falter on Friday with clock reading we did a memory-type card game with the clock and placing the hours around the clock.
We then talked through the half-hours and how the hour hand also moved and it seemed to sink in a bit more this time. She demonstrated that by drawing the hour and minute hands correctly on several examples I gave her.
Next we did Chapter 8 of Poppy.
She took a break by watching some DIY and American Girl videos.

Sept 20-22nd
Friday -
We started out the morning making a birthday card and writing a letter to her aunt H. Bonus, we did it at Mel and Mia's!
She was very frustrated with the clock and how the hour hand doesn't point exactly to the number - instead moves in between. She was doing great at clock stuff a year ago, but apparently has forgotten a lot. What I thought would be really easy for her is turning out to be frustrating.

Sept 19
We read Poppy in the library before class. Part of our Build Your Library curriculum.
Next she had her Maker Studio class where she was thrilled to learn that the next classes were free to create... With no one telling her what to do!
When we got home I saw a recipe on Facebook for Pumpkin Spice playdough so I gave it to Eleanor and helped her gather supplies. She did all of the measuring. :)2017_Sep 15
Friday
First we tried to track down whales and left the house at 7:30! (We were unsuccessful). All was not lost though! Some early morning fresh air!
We did math while we waited for Buddy to do gymnastics.
She is winning at this Bingo math game :p
Went to her PE class after that, which apparently I didn't take any photos of!
Monday
Did our reading/history before taking buddy to school. Here she is looking at some internet links from the Usborne IL encyclopedia.
Took him to school, ran a grocery errand, came home to do math.
She built and added numbers to the abacus, place holder cards, etc, then did an adding worksheet where I realized we still need to work on some place value things!.
Dropped her for a play date and when we got back home she did spelling, reluctantly.
Topped off the night with some art class at Frances Anderson Center.

Sept 13-14
We got some math done yesterday (Wednesday) the other half when she stopped wanting to do anything and we went to the zoo. At least it is done. :)
We also went to school for her Let's Do A Play class and were disappointed to learn that it will start next week. But we did get her script and she saw the teacher who told her to read it and choose 3 characters she might want to be.

Sept 12th - Tuesday
A bit of a rough morning. We got half way through math before we needed to take little buddy to school.
When we came back, she had a bit of a mental breakdown. After reading some of our nighttime book, Holes, and eating a snack, we got back to work but are saving math for later.
We did leave rubbings and talked about deciduous leaves in her Nature Journal. I wanted to do more science catchup on Fungus, but she wasn't having it. She wrote a note to a neighbor friend who is now off to college and after that...
She still was complaining about school. At which point, I got mad and said that we needed to go to our neighborhood school right now and enroll. (No, I wasn't serious). It made her shut down more and she wrote me a sweet note and I decided we had to do something different today.
So after picking up buddy we ate lunch and went to the zoo!
Sept 11th - Monday
Lesson 66: Corners game
Mental math, adding double digit numbers, scoring points when the sum adds up to 5, 10, 15, 20.
Spelling: Lesson 5, teaching rules 1 and 2 for diving syllables.

Sept 5 (Tuesday)
1st day back to school - again ;)
We did math at home.
Rows and Columns game, adding that to 15.
Then we did our reading/Build Your Library at the library per the request of the second grader! We read about Ananai and also Egyptian Diary. (Oh yeah, we still need to make a picture!)
And some recess time in the incredibly smoky, raining ash, playground.
Watched some Mr Wizard for science (and then I let the kids wAtch Odd Squad).
We did one of the science experiments at dinner.
Now spelling on the couch :)
